World Friendship Day (30 July 2023)

28.07.2023
As world friendship day approaches on the 30 July, I am minded of how important my friends are to me, both new and old. We have shared so much together – good and tough times, celebrations and sadness. To my friends I would like to say: THANK YOU  – you will never know how much I value and appreciate you.    I love this cartoon of Winnie the Pooh, who is the UN's World Ambassador of Friendship – honestly! In 1998 Winnie the Pooh was...

Out of my comfort zone

09.05.2023
Last week I stepped out of my comfort zone completely and onto a paddle board for the first time.  This might not seem like a big deal for some, but for me, who isn’t a really confident swimmer, doesn’t like the cold (especially water) or getting wet, it was quite a challenge.  The perfect opportunity arose whilst I was on holiday on Mull – brilliant!  Thankfully it’s a bit early for swarms of midges and, although the temperature had...

WiN celebrates their fifth anniversary

05.04.2023
It was good to take time out in March to celebrate International Women's Day, and what better way to do it than at WiN Cumbria's 5th birthday celebration on the 8 March! It was lovely to catch up with friends and make some new ones too. I was delighted to be able to invite Abigail Mason (left in photo) to come along from Inspire Safety. Re-connecting with Lydia Drummond from Prima Uno Ltd was also very special (right in photo). Well done to...

Dream entrepreneurs

01.03.2023
It was great to be a part of the Dream Entrepreneurs week (20 to 24 February) with other partner organisations and the Centre for Leadership Performance.  This was to support a new team-based activity, funded by Sellafield Ltd, within Dream Placement 2023, which challenged 16- to 18-year-olds to become entrepreneurs and discover what would encourage them to create their own businesses. It was humbling for me to share my own journey, from...

View from the door

View from the door across Lochdon, Isle of Mull, ScotlandPhoto taken by Angie As 2023 gets underway, it could be easy to think we are still in 22 as the same challenges from last year are very present in the news, on the television, and when moving around our networks and our communities, it all seems pretty much ‘same old same old’.  New year resolutions have been made, and some already broken.  I guess the challenge is to ask: How can I...
